About Me

BRENDA MARR – An Introduction
Brenda Marr
Hi, I would like to introduce myself to you as I feel it is important that you get to know me as well as me knowing you; it helps the therapeutic relationship and helps us know each other.

My background is one of the "caring" profession and begun on leaving school and studying for and gaining a certificate in social care. Following this I went on to work in a variety of settings and with a wide range of client groups i.e. in the voluntary and private sectors with people with complex needs, older people with learning difficulties and young people in care home settings.

Throughout these posts I had varying levels of responsibility ranging from residential officer to assistant manager.

I took time out from work during my pregnancy and following the birth of my son, I commenced my nurse training at Dundee in Scotland, where I successfully graduated with a Diploma in Mental Health Nursing (RMN). This has provided me with valuable academic knowledge and insight into the field of mental and emotional health.

Throughout my training my practical experience was gained in local health board psychiatric facilities and on completion I secured work as an RMN in a local hospital, where I thrived on the ability to help others reach their own potential by assisting them to learn techniques, skills and coping strategies as well as providing information specific to their own health needs.

In 1997 I also completed a Diploma in Stress Management in the Workplace and in 1998 left the local health board to again work in the private sector in a management role.

Juggling the work / life balance is something I am familiar with and having also spent time as a single parent throughout these times I have first hand experience of the every day stresses involved. At this time I worked in a variety of settings where the shift work was practical! This included nursing homes and agencies, prison service and also the social work department.

In 2004, I elected to take a career break to reassess my long term plans and I lived abroad until my return to Scotland in 2006.

Upon my return, I have worked on the development of health promotion material and continue to keep my RMN nursing skills up to date. Also upon my return, I decided to complete my clinical hypnotherapy training and have since devoted my time to Hypnoplease.

I built up a successful business within Scotland having expanded to have 2 geographical bases and securing clients both individuals and corporate.

I am fully covered by Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance and
Enhanced Disclosure Checked.
